My Son’s Memories of Heaven and Our Family

What Is the Opposite of Being Loved?

In this blog, I have shared many stories about my youngest son and the memories he says he has of Heaven.

Today, I would like to tell you about our family.

This story will continue until Vol. 5, so I hope you’ll stay with us on this journey.

I live with my husband and my three sons.

My oldest and second son were born during my first marriage to my American husband.

After our divorce, I met my current husband. We fell in love, got married, and later welcomed our youngest son into our family.

The road that brought us here was not easy.

There were many times when I wondered how I could survive the pain. Even today, some of that pain still remains.

Meeting my husband truly felt like a reward after everything I had been through.

He treats me like a princess and loves not only me but also all three of my sons equally.

I am very happy.

But trauma does not disappear overnight.

My ex-husband was emotionally abusive.

He often said cruel things to me.

One of the things he repeatedly told me was:

“In America, women over 25 are like leftover Christmas cake. I picked you up because no one else would ever want you.”

He also called me names like “idiot” and “a terrible mother.”

At that time, I had nowhere to run.

We were living in the United States, and I couldn’t simply leave with my children.

So I became used to living with those words.

That is why, even now, when my husband shows me so much love and kindness every day, part of me still feels afraid.

It sounds strange, doesn’t it?

I am surrounded by love, yet sometimes I am scared of it.

My oldest and second son saw everything.

They watched me being insulted every day, and from a very young age, they always stood by my side.

My oldest son especially tried to protect both me and his younger brother.

Whenever my ex-husband yelled at me, slammed doors, or broke things, I sometimes couldn’t stop crying.

During those moments, my oldest son quietly took his little brother into another room.

He closed the door, turned up the volume on their tablet, and played games or watched videos with him so he wouldn’t have to hear or see what was happening.

I believe he was probably the most frightened person in our home.

Even so, he protected his little brother.

He has helped me more times than I can ever express.

※I am not sharing this story because I want people to feel sorry for us.

There are many people in the world who are struggling, even at this very moment.

If our family’s journey, and the way we have slowly learned to move forward, can help even one person feel that they are not alone, then I believe everything we went through has meaning.

In the middle of our journey, my youngest son began sharing his memories of Heaven.

To us, they were not simply mysterious stories.

They became a source of hope for our family.

That is why I decided to share our story.

To be continued in Vol. 2…
